Virginia Mae Pottebaum, 91, of Mexico, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the King's Daughters Home.

Funeral Services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, at St. Brendan Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Brendan Cemetery.

Visitation is Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at Arnold Funeral Home.

Virginia was born on December 7, 1933, in Linn, Missouri, to Joseph and Mary (Franken) Maasen. As the youngest of six children, she was the only one to learn to drive and graduate from high school, becoming the light and heart of her family.

In 1952, a young, curly-haired telephone lineman named George rented a room in her parents' home and soon swept Virginia off her feet. The couple married on October 15, 1953, and over the next eight years, they had five children: Vickie Pottebaum Riley, Beverly Semar (Mark), Debby Burnett (Danny), Ruth Campbell, and Benny Joe Pottebaum, who preceded her in death on November 8, 2006.

Virginia and George enjoyed many Saturday nights dancing together, later taking up square dancing, which they loved. When they danced, it was as if they were floating on air.

A devout Catholic, Virginia was a lifetime member of St. Brendan Catholic Church and recited the rosary daily until her passing. She was also an active member of the St. Brendan Ladies Sodality and the American Legion Auxiliary, James Bledsoe Post 26, where she served as past president.

Throughout her life, Virginia worked at various jobs, including at Lotton's Market and Monique's Boutique. In 1979, she began her true passion—babysitting from her home—becoming everyone's beloved "grandma" for the next 15 years.

Virginia's greatest joy was her family, which included her five children and nine grandchildren, Travis Prince (Tonia), Jeremy Prince (Rachel), Polly Hoffman, Lisa Patrick, Wendi Burton (Travis), Kyle Burnett (Heather), Gabe Burnett (Alexis), Jordan Campbell (Edna), and Dylan Campbell (Annie); 16 great-grandchildren, Jack Prince (Josie), Ryan Prince, Tyler Prince (Reghan), Robby Hoffman, Raygen Hoffman, Kadence Prince, Jaeden Pottebaum (Ashley), Ciara Patrick (Bennett), Hanna Goff (Spencer), Carli Jo Goff (Zack), Emma Burton, Kylie Burnett, Makayla Burnett, Hunter Burnett, Brantley Burnett, Oliver Burnett, and Maci Burnett; and six great-great-grandchildren, Aurora, Amara, Charlie, Franklin, Benjamin, and Vivienne.

Virginia was lovingly referred to as "Ol' Grandma" by everyone.

Mrs. Pottebaum was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents and five siblings, and one son, Benny Joe.
