Vertna Brooks-Scott was born September 29, 1956, to the late Constance and Ora Lee Brooks in Mexico, Missouri. She was called home to rest on January 30, 2023.

Funeral Services will be at 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, at Second Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation is Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Vertna, 66, was a lifelong resident of Mexico, Missouri and graduated from Mexico Senior High in 1974. Following graduation, she attended Central Missouri University in Warrensburg, Missouri. Vertna worked at Hubbell Power Systems, also known as A.B. Chances. She was recently recognized for her 46 years of service.

Vertna was widely known as "Sissy." She enjoyed softball, crocheting, watching Hallmark movies and cheering on her favorite team- the Dallas Cowboys. She was an active member of Second Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a Deaconess and sang in the choir. Vertna was also a member of the Eastern Star. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Vertna was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother- everyone knew her love for her daughter Alexis. She was recently blessed with the arrival of her grandson, Kobe, and cherished all her moments with him- especially their early morning talks and feeds.

Survivors include one daughter, Alexis Brooks of Mexico; one grandson, Kobe Taylor of Mexico; two sisters, Wanda Brooks, and Roslyn Rummans, both of Mexico; two brothers, Dierk Brooks of Columbia, and Roger Brooks of Jefferson City; one great-uncle, Lewis Moore of Mexico; uncles, Charles West of Norfolk, Virginia, Ronald West of Columbia, and Vincent West of Mexico; niece, Constance Brooks of Mexico; nephew, Adarain Rummans of Columbia; great-niece, Unique Rummans; great-nephew, Adavion Rummans; many cousins, and a very special friend, Tonette Williams.

Vertna was preceded in death by her parents, Constance Laverne West Brooks, and Ora Lee "Jim" Brooks; grandparents, Dollie Brooks, John Henry "Moses" Brooks, Leon Bacon West, Sr., and Vertna Pearl Moore West; one brother, Terry Craig Brooks; and one sister, Beverly Brooks.
