Shirley Ann (Miller) Winter

Shirley (89), named after Shirley Temple passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord with Gene right by her side, July 4, 2024 at Boone Hospital in Columbia, MO.

Shirley was born Jan. 21, 1935. to Alice & Wylie Miller in Shelbina, MO.

Shirley married and is survived by Edward (Gene) Winter. They built a beautiful life in Mexico, MO with their two boys. Shirley and Gene loved dogs and had several over the years. In their younger years, they enjoyed traveling all over the US in their RV and family celebrations at their farm.  Family was always the most important thing to Shirley and she enjoyed sharing the stories of her life. Shirley and Gene would've celebrated 70 years of marriage this November.

Shirley was a part of the Red Hat Society and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She loved all of her sorority sisters as her own.  Shirley was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her sons.  She loved children so much she made a career out of it as a playground supervisor at Eugene Field Elementary.  After several years with the school, she switched careers to become a home interiors consultant.  Shirley was passionate about keeping a clean, well decorated home. Her other hobbies included cooking, doll collecting and growing beautiful flowers.  Shirley was happiest when spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Gene, Shirley is survived by her son, Randy Winter of Columbia; granddaughters, Stephanie Winter (Micah Saucier) and Stacey Winter (Andy Poelhuis); grandson, Mitchell Winter (Debra Winter); two great-granddaughters, Penelope and Genevieve; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved youngest son, Rodney Winter; her parents; and siblings, Clendis, Lillian, Selby, and Barbara.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 13 at East Lawn Memorial Park in Mexico.
