Shirley Elaine Merkl, 86, of Mexico, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at The Arbor's at Lakeview Bend in Mexico.

Shirley was born on March 6, 1937, in Mendota, Illinois, the daughter of Glenn and Dorothy Mealey. On September 25, 1954, in Mendota, she married Anton Merkl.

Mrs. Merkl enjoyed the trips that life led her on. She started a travel agency at Lake of the Ozarks, which she ran for 10 years. Shirley and Anton made many trips to Europe to visit friends and family. Along with the travel agency she was also a banker for years. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Luxie Merkl (Jay Hurst) of Grantsville, Utah, and Linda (Wayde) Barnes of Mexico; five grandchildren, Tony (Jama) Bulfer of Magna, Utah, Tim (Tia) Bulfer of Sugarhouse, Utah, Tom (Heidi) Bulfer of Grantsville, Utah, Trish Barnes of Mexico and Jessica Barnes of Mexico; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jim Mealey and Glenn Mealey Jr; and one grandson, Terry Bulfer.

There will be no services.
