Sam was born on August 17, 1934, in Mexico, Missouri, the son of Samuel Prentiss and Mary Evelean (Duckworth) Oliver. He graduated from Mexico High School in 1952. On March 31, 1961, in Mexico, he married Lillie B. Jesse. She preceded him in death on October 3, 2024.

Sam and his father owned and operated Oliver's Billiards for many years. He later worked at Gamble Paint and Glass, and Westlake's, where he was known for his dependable nature and friendly smile.

A lifelong resident of Mexico, Sam was a member of the Lions Club for several years. He enjoyed playing pool and cards, hunting, and, above all, spending time with his family.

Sam's faith was the foundation of his life. He was a longtime member of Kentucky Road Christian Church, and he and Lillie instilled the values of hard work, honesty, loyalty, and kindness in their children.

Survivors include two daughters, Tammy (Tony) Henderson of Versailles, Kentucky, and Michelle (Lee) Eddy of Mexico; three grandchildren, Jillian Current of Mexico, Tyler (Rachel) Appling and Ariel (Cory) Smith, both of Versailles, Kentucky; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Vicki (Don) Mason of Mexico. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie B. Oliver; his parents; a sister, JoAnne Potter; a daughter, Donna Oliver; a son, James P. Oliver; and a grandson, Evan Current.

Memorial donations may be made to the Madelyn Clark Nursing Scholarship, Monroe Manor, or St. Croix Hospice. Memorials may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson Street, Mexico, MO 65265.
