Robert Lee Knipfel, 92, of Mexico, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, November 1, 2021 at Arnold Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Pike conducting the service.

Visitation will be on Monday, November 1, 2021 from 12:00 P.M. until time of services at the funeral home.

Mr. Knipfel was born on February 7, 1929 in Mexico, the son of John and Inez (Bird) Knipfel.  On January 14, 1950 in Salem, Arkansas he married Dorothy Mae Allen who preceded him in death.

Robert attended the Mexico Public schools before enlisting in the United States Army Air Force.  He proudly served in Germany at the end of World War II.  He was honorably discharged as a sergeant in December of 1948.  Robert was a member of the Mexico Fire Department.  He was a plumber and pipe fitter locally with Barnett Plumbing and Heating.  Robert joined the Local 562 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union.  He retired in 1993.  Robert was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Mexico.  Robert enjoyed spending his leisure time hunting, fishing, caring for dogs, cats and wild birds.  His grandchildren held a special place in his heart.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce (Nancy) Knipfel of Kansas City, MO and Barry (Jackie) Knipfel of Mexico; one brother, Larry (Stella) Knipfel of Mexico; two sisters, Beatrice Means of Bethany, MO and Sandy Callahan of Russellville, MO; one sister-in-law, Mary Allen of Mexico; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Knipfel was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Knipfel; his parents, John and Inez Knipfel; three brothers, Howard Knipfel, Wesley Junior Knipfel and Raymond Knipfel; four sisters, Edna Scott, Bonnie Karhoff, Judy Hudson and Doris Karhoff.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Audrain Humane Society Dog Park. Memorials may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson, Mexico, MO 65265.
