Russell Richard "Dick" Nichols, of San Marcos, Texas, died on December 23, 2024, at the age of 85 years. He was born on June 1, 1939, in Audrain County, Missouri, and grew up near the town of Laddonia. He is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Hilda Nichols and Great-grandson Beau Hayob.

He is survived by his wife Virginia Forgy Nichols of San Marcos; They were married June 30, 1963, in Vandalia, MO. Survived by son Kerry (DeDe) of Kingdom City, MO; daughter Dea Nobis (Brian) of Paris, MO; and daughter Tamra Meek (Chris) of Spring Hill, KS. He is the proud grandfather of Haley Larson (Nick), Seth Nobis (Audrey), Jill Nobis (Drew), Logan Nichols (Symone), Quintin Nichols (Hannah), Jolie Meek and Cody Meek. Also, surviving is brother Don of Vandalia, MO and brother & sister-in-law Dan & Theresa Forgy of Overland Park, KS. He also leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren: Mercer, Rowan, Grayson, Ava, Karter, Beau, Rayna, Beckham, Becca and one on the way. Also remembering him are several nieces and nephews.

After attending Northeast Missouri State Teachers College at Kirksville, MO, Dick enjoyed a 36-year career in JR High and High School education in Missouri and Illinois and coached most sports during that time, as well as officiating many seasons.

After Dick & Virginia retired to San Marcos, Texas in 2006, they were members of San Marcos AARP chapters and Gideon International; participated in several ministries of Calvary Baptist Church; volunteered at the Chamber of Commerce, Tourist Information Center; and supported San Marcos High and Texas State activities and teams.

In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Mr. Nichols may be made to the American Heart Association or Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund.

Graveside services will be at 12 noon on Saturday, January 4, at New Florence (MO) Cemetery with Kevin Wilkerson officiating.
