Richard Herndon, Jr., 75, of Mexico, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2022.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, at Arnold Funeral Home with Rev. Marcus Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Richard was born on August 4, 1947, in Mexico, the son of Richard and Edna (Benton) Herndon, Sr. He married Ellen "Lois" Herndon on April 28, 1967, in Mexico. They were married nearly 48 years.

Richard started working for Audrain Medical Center after graduation from high school. He then went to work for Missouri Power and Light. He started working at A.P. Green Refractories in July of 1970 until April of 2002. After the close of A.P. Green Richard went to work at Mexico Public Schools in September of 2002 where he retired from in August of 2012. He enjoyed fishing and sports, especially football.

He is survived by five children, Kenneth Herndon of Jefferson City, Tina Gant of Killeen, TX, Richard Herndon, II of Mexico, Veronica (Ariel) Herndon-Jenkins of St. Charles and Valencia (Raymond) Bell of Jefferson City; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Kenneth (Phyllis) Herndon of Columbia, Donnell (Stormy) Herndon of Columbia and Ervin Herndon of Richmond, VA; three sisters, Marcella Stallings of North Carolina, Denise Herndon of Columbia and Janice Herndon of Joliet, IL; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Ellen "Lois"; his parents, Richard and Edna Herndon; three brothers, Wallace Herndon, James Benton Herndon and Charles Herndon; and one sister, Marlene Matthews.
