Phyllis Ann Murta, 85, of Mexico, passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021, at the King's Daughters Home.
Memorial Services will be at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, at Arnold Funeral Home with Rev. Eric Mattson officiating. Visitation is Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
Phyllis was born on February 15, 1936 in Bem, Missouri, the daughter of George and Flora (Stock) Landwehr. On August 20, 1955 in Bem, she married Robert Murta. He survives.
Mrs. Murta graduated from Lincoln University. She taught Physical Education at Mexico High School and was loved by her students.
Phyllis went on to run three retail stores, The Children's World, Jr. Racque and the Maternity Boutique. She later sold real estate for Botts and McCue, Coldwell Banker, Longo Group and Century 21. She received several awards and recognitions for her many accomplishments.
Mrs. Murta was a member of the Mexico United Methodist Church. She served as President of the Mexico Chamber of Commerce and the Village Square Association.
Phyllis loved to tell a good joke and enjoyed a good ribeye. But most of all, she dearly loved her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 66 years, Robert Murta; son, Philip Murta (Barbara Kehl) of Mexico; daughter, Amy (Todd) Menefee of Columbia; three grandsons, Jacob Murta, Ross Menefee and Quintin Menefee; two sisters, Lois Ruffner of Bem, Missouri, and Barbie Schroepfer of Washington, Missouri; sister-in-law, Sandy Landwehr; Goddaughter, Debbie Adams; and many nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Doris Green; and five brothers, Wayne, Robert, Maurice, Ralph and Carl Landwehr.
Memorial donations may be made to the King's Daughters Home, American Heart Association or the Dialysis Clinic (DCI). All may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson, Mexico, MO 65265.
