Meka Kaye
Buckner
Oct 14, 1985 — Jun 15, 2023
Mexico
Meka Kaye Buckner, 37, of Mexico, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.
Meka was born on October 14, 1985, in Columbia, the daughter of Michael Dennis and Troi Jaye (Adkisson) Buckner. She was baptized at Lockewood Park Baptist Church.
Meka graduated from Mexico High School in 2004. She had worked for Carrollton Greeting Cards, Xpressmart, Liberty Diner, and most recently at Stacey's Place.
Early in life, Meka acquired some of the most loyal, trustworthy, and dependable friends a person could ask for. She had such love and appreciation for each of them and they quickly became a part of her family. As the years went on, she would adopt a few more people into her world and was surrounded by some of the most sincere people a person could ask for.
Meka enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She had a huge appreciation for music, film, and the arts and loved drawing. She spent time playing games and considered herself a Match Masters guru and took pride in being one of the top-ranking players. She loved reminiscing about past experiences and was one of the most animated and comical storytellers her friends and family had ever seen.
Meka has been described by many as kind, fierce, and loyal. She was genuine and appreciated that same trait in others. She lived life unapologetically and encouraged others to do the same. She touched many souls and spread a lot of love in her 37 years on this Earth.
Survivors include one daughter, Karma Curtis of Mexico; one son, De'Shon Fountain of Mexico; loving partner of 16 years, Derrell Curtis of Mexico; two sisters, Shauna Landin (Jerome Heileman) of Mexico and Destini (Jamie) Woods of Auxvasse; aunts, Toni (Richard) Mechlin, Tracey (Edward) Jones, and Marnita Buckner; and several, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Meka was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Troi Buckner; and grandparents, Marvin and Alice Buckner, and Dorothy and Carl Adkisson.
A Celebration of Meka's Life will be held at Stacey's Place in Mexico, MO from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Saturday, June 24, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arnold Funeral Home to assist the family with final expenses.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the ICU staff at University Hospital for their care and compassion.
