Mary Maxine Williams, 84, of Mexico, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at her home.

Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 18, at Arnold Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Maxine was born on January 22, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Malon and Virginia (Dixon) Williams. On January 31, 1990, in Mexico, she married Elmer "Joe" Williams. He passed away on June 3, 2007.

Mrs. Williams had worked for Florsheim Shoe Factory and then for many years at Audrain Medical Center, where she retired.

Maxine was known for her fashionable taste and style in clothing. Her style was impeccable, she was always dressed from head to toe and always had her riding boots. She loved being around her family and friends, especially the "NightFighters". She also enjoyed to dance (two-step), shopping, getting her hair done, the casino, and playing bingo.

Survivors include one daughter, Frances (Eugene) Stubbs of Mexico; three step-children, Lois (Oscar) Williams of Vandalia, Kevin Scott of Mexico and Helene Crews of Minneapolis, MN; 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles (Linda) Williams and Lanny Douglas Williams, both of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Carol Williams of Kansas City, Missouri; a special friend, Lionel Williams of Kansas City, Missouri; brothers-in-law, Edward (Pat) Williams, Nathaniel (Lanette) Williams, Randy (Teresa) Williams, Clifford Williams, and David Fisher, all of Mexico; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Williams of Mexico and Carolyn Sue (Charles) Tate of Illinois; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer "Joe" Williams; one daughter, Kathy Williams; one son, Leonard "Lenny" Williams; step-son, Dwayne Crews; granddaughter, Montay Williams; grandson, Dwayne Crews Jr.; one brother, Larry Williams; one sister, Ruth Ann Williams; brothers-in-law, Robert "Bobby" Williams, Clarence "Gene" Williams and John "Jackie" Williams; sister-in-law, Mary Williams; five nephews, Gary Williams, Robert Williams, Stephen Williams, Richard Williams and Warren Williams.

A heart of gold stopped beating. God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best. Your life was a blessing, your memory we will treasure. We all loved you beyond words and miss you beyond measure.

Maxine will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends, but her legacy is a living, breathing thing because it resides in her children, grandchildren, and even friends whom she considered family. Our family lost a matriarch, but Heaven gained an angel. What an incredible life she lived! May she rest in peace!
