Mary Edna Herron, 99, of Mexico, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Madison with Jimmie Stewart officiating.

Visitation is Monday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Arnold Funeral Home.

Mary was born on March 27, 1925, in Holliday, the daughter of Charles Elvin and Mabel R. (Crumley) Elam. On May 18, 1947, in Moberly, she married Homer W. Herron. He passed away on April 24, 2000.

Mary graduated from Madison High School. At an early age, she taught school. Later, she became a telephone operator before beginning a long and fulfilling career as an administrative assistant at Audrain Medical Center, where she worked for 27 years before retiring.

Mary was an active member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where she contributed to her community with kindness and faith. She had a deep love for nature, which she expressed through her beautiful garden and flower beds. Mary enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether it was tending to her garden or mowing the lawn. She also found joy in raising small livestock, including chickens, and had a special connection to the simple pleasures of rural life.

A talented quilter and an excellent cook, Mary was known for her warmth and hospitality, especially when it came to her famous pie crusts. Her family and friends were often treated to delicious meals, and her quilts, crafted with care and skill, will be cherished for generations to come.

Survivors include one son, John (Karen) Herron of Thompson; one daughter, Linda Fischer of Mexico; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Herron of Mexico; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Homer, Mary was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Herron; one son-in-law, George Fischer; and one sister, Moneka Heitmeyer.
