Mary Annette Azdell, age 80, of Mexico, Missouri, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, at University Hospital, surrounded by the deep love of her family.

Annette was born on Sept. 13, 1944, in Sante Fe, Missouri, to Mary Frances Hemmings Reid and Woodson Reid. Annette graduated from Paris High School with the class of 1962. She went to the University of Missouri for two years. Annette married William Azdell in Mexico, MO, on February 14, 1965. They just celebrated 60 happy years together. She was also a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy was having her family gathered close around her.

During her high school years, Annette worked for her aunt and uncle, Clyde & Norrine Jones, at Jonesy's Diner in Paris, MO. After marriage, she worked at AP Greens in the accounting office which she parted from to raise her children. She rejoined the workforce, working for Dr. Joseph Forney who she greatly admired.  After working for Dr. Forney, she went to work for Prosthetic Consultants until she retired from the workforce.

She is survived by her husband, her five children: Jennifer Palmer (Howard) of St. Peters, MO; Amy Williams (John) of Mexico, MO; Alan Azdell (Beth) of Ashland, MO; Patty Cloven (Rich Weber) of Holts Summit, MO; and Pam Hanley of Mexico, MO. Annette's legacy continues in her grandchildren: Karlie Brandow (Devin), Samantha Scott (Travis), Brandon Cloven (Ally), Sarah Cloven (Jack Muccino), Ben Palmer (Leah Hibbeler), Carolyn Palmer, Emma Azdell, Olivia Azdell (Jeremy Strawn), Ian Williams (Amy Schaffer) and Madeline Williams. Annette also had five precious great-grandchildren and seven nieces & nephews; her brother Bill Reid (Linda) and brother-in-law Kenny Azdell (Janet).

Annette now rejoices in heaven with her mother Mary Frances Reid, her father Woodson Reid, her sister Ellalou Dunn, brother-in-law Bill Dunn, and father- and mother-in-law, Russell and Willa Azdell.

Annette was known for her kind heart, gentle strength and deep devotion to her family. She was a life-long Christian and relied heavily on her faith. She was actively involved in her children's lives and activities, including Vacation Bible School, Girl Scouts, and PTA. Her happiest moments were with her family, filling her home with laughter, warmth and unconditional love where many family dinners were prepared in her kitchen.

She loved to read books, finish crossword puzzles, and play cards. Annette's love of genealogy and history led her to be an active member of the James Monroe Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Monroe County Historical Society. She was a former member of the Annie Arnold Circle of the King's Daughters Home and served as a Deacon at the First Christian Church, Mexico, MO.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 9th from 5 – 7 p.m. at Arnold Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 10th at 1:00 p.m. and burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the James Monroe Chapter of the DAR in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson St, Mexico, MO 65265.
