Margaret Ann Nichols was born on October 28, 1934, and passed away December 16, 2023. She was born and raised in the Benton City and Mexico, Missouri area by her parents Ransom and Vivian Newman.  She settled down with her husband Donnie Nichols and chose to remain in Mexico to raise their four children.

Growing up as a child of the depression, Margaret developed a strong sense of frugality, self-reliance, and a determined attitude toward managing her affairs.  An outspoken personality with strong convictions and opinions about a variety of topics, her family and friends never had much doubt about where she stood.  Margaret for many years enjoyed hosting the family for holidays and festive meals.  When able, she was a regular church attender and historically cared for several elderly neighbors in need.  In her later years she maintained regular contact by phone with many of her friends and family.  A mom, grandmother, sister, aunt, and great grandmother – she will be missed.

Margaret is survived by her two sons, Mike and his wife Pam, and Larry; her sister Ethel Marie Browning of Springfield, MO; son-in-law Tom Gerling of Fulton; daughter-in-law Ellen Nichols; and sister-in-law Linda Nichols. In addition, the surviving grandchildren are Brandy Taylor and husband Jed, Sarah Gerling, Russell Nichols, and William Nichols.  Great grandchildren include Jordan Taylor, Sady Fancher, Ross Taylor, Whit Taylor, Lane Gerling, Sadie Gerling, Dallas Gerling, and Henley Gerling. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Preceding her in death were husband Donnie, daughter Melissa Gerling, son Gary, grandson Ross Nichols; siblings Helen Crim and Edward Newman.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday December 22, 2023, at the shelter in East Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Mexico.  Arrangements are being made by Arnold Funeral Home with Dan Sites officiating.
