John Edwin Lierheimer of Mexico, Missouri died April 25, 2025 in Cartersville, Georgia surrounded by family. John was dearly loved and cared for by many family members in his final years as he struggled with the challenges of dementia. He was 81 years old.

John was born November 18, 1943 in Audrain County, Missouri, the son of Edwin and Clementine (Doerge) Lierheimer.

He grew up on the farm and grew to love farming. He attended Prairie Lea School with siblings and cousins. Later, he attended and graduated from Mexico Senior High School. He played in the high school band, was a class officer his junior year and participated in Future Farmers of America. John always knew he wanted to farm. He briefly attended the University of Missouri, Columbia. Being anxious to pursue what he loved, he returned to the family farm to work in partnership with his father and brother. Later, he farmed with his three sons.

He met his wife in the fall of 1964. On March 7, 1965 John married Delores Day at Littleby Methodist Church where he attended for most of his youth. On September 3, 1968 the couple and children were sealed as an eternal family in the Salt Lake City, Utah temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He became a faithful and very active leader and served in many capacities in his local congregation the remainder of his life. While in his twenties, he served as the Branch President.

John had very little time for hobbies; however, he loved purple martins and every March he would put up his birdhouses in the backyard. He was also a great handyman around the home.

He will always be missed by his family who loved and admired him for his great example of how to live a good life.

John is survived by his wife Delores; 5 children, Jill (Jim) McAllister, Euharlee, Georgia, Natalie (Eric) Nielsen, Wentzville, John Lierheimer II, Rush Hill, Grant Lierheimer, Mexico, Drew Lierheimer, Mexico; 8 grandchildren, Lindsey (Matt) McKelvey, Cartersville, Georgia, Katie (Logan) Gray, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Vince (Jordan) McAllister, Cartersville, Georgia, Blaine Nielsen, Wentzville, Kellin Nielsen, Wentzville, Jane (Jameson) Orton, Spanish Fork, Utah, Jace Nielsen, Lee's Summit, Miranda Lierheimer, Mexico; and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Richard Lierheimer, Mexico and a sister Peggy Lierheimer, Joplin; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Priscilla Phillips and great grandson Dawson Gray.

Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. on Saturday, May 3, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 635 Ringo Street, Mexico.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, May 2, at the church.
