John L. Gibbons, 85 of Mexico, Missouri, passed away at 8:41 p.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Pin Oaks Nursing Center in Mexico.

Graveside services will be held at the East Lawn Memorial Park shelter on Monday, July 13, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.

John was born on May 20, 1941 in Mexico, Missouri, son of Paul F. Gibbons and Delta E. Gibbons. On October 15, 1977, he married Dorothy (Garrett) Gibbons in Mexico, Missouri who preceded him in death on February 17, 2025.

Survivors include his son Brad Gibbons (Debbie) of Mexico, his daughter Tonya (Darrell) Thoenen of Benton City, step-daughter Robyn (John) Smith of Mexico, step-son Larry Gieseker of Martinsburg, sister Betty Galen (Larry) of Columbia, his grandchildren Jamie (Jason) Pehle, Tyler Gibbons, Jessica White, Amanda Swift, Samantha Winters and Levi Gibbons. He is also survived by step-grandchildren, Brittany Landreth, Brandi (Logan) Schlemmer, Brock Lunceford (Hannah Rodgers), Tessa Ward, Melissa (Andy) Garnett, Julie Gieseker, Chris (Alexis) Gieseker, Jennifer Winters, Kaylee (Dane) Omohundro, Shelby (Jason) Anderson, Kimberlee (Mark) Schlabach and Clint Smith and numerous great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Mark Gibbons, one step-son, Timothy J. Gieseker, two brothers, Kenneth Gibbons and Dale Gibbons, one sister, Shirley Barker, as well as numerous other family members.
