Jewell Bert Stoneberger, 77, of Ashland, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at University of Missouri Hospital.

A visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:45 P.M. on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at Arnold Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 2:00 P.M. in Elmwood Cemetery.

Jewell was born on July 31, 1949 in Mexico, the son of Jewell, Sr. and Lettie (Leonard) Wilson.

Jewell proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, earning the Purple Heart after being injured in service and returning home. He also earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Badge with Machine Gun Bar, Sharpshooter Badge with rifle Bar. Following his military service, he attended Linn Technical School, where he received additional training. Jewell had a passion for classic cars and enjoyed rebuilding engines, often generously donating his finished projects to someone in need of reliable transportation. He also loved riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Another great passion of Jewell’s was caring for his yard. He took great pride in keeping his own lawn immaculate and often mowed and cared for the yards of others as well.

Survivors include two children, Daphne (Michael) Phillips of Ashland and Michael Stoneberger of Ashland; three grandchildren, Taylor (Christian) Balk of Ashland, Courtney Phillips of Chicago, IL, and Bailey Phillips of Ashland; three great-grandchildren, Blakely Phillips, Decker Balk and Mila See; three sisters, Patsy Ryan of Kansas City, Loretta Spires of Mexico and Lettie Broeker of Mexico as well as several nieces and nephews.

Jewell was preceded in death by his parents, Jewell, Sr. and Lettie Wilson; one niece, Cheryl Stokes and one brother-in-law, Ernie Broeker.
