Jean Bagnell Howell, 76, of Mexico, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Lenoir Woods in Columbia.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16, at Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico. A private burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Boonville.  Kevin Wilkerson will be officiating the service.

Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16, at the funeral home.

Jean was born on January 15, 1949 in Boonville, the daughter of Thomas Henry and Marilyn Annilee (Byler) Bagnell.  On December 31, 1990 she married Norman "Skip" Howell in Wooldridge, who preceded her in death.

Jean's life was marked by compassion, dedication, and a deep sense of purpose. Fulfilling a childhood dream, she graduated from the University of Missouri School of Nursing and went on to serve as house manager at the University of Missouri Medical Center, where her calm leadership and caring spirit touched many lives. After her retirement in 2013, Jean continued to give back, passionately supporting charitable causes—especially the Children's Miracle Network. In memory of her beloved husband Skip, she helped organize an annual sporting clay tournament to benefit the organization, combining her love for community with a heartfelt tribute. In her later years Jean supported neglected and abused animals, especially miniature donkeys, a gentle reflection of the kindness and warmth she carried throughout her life.

Survivors include one sister, Mary Natali of Stockton, CA and one brother, Daniel Bagnell of Rocheport.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Norman "Skip" Howell; parents, Thomas and Marilyn Bagnell; one sister, Nancy Bagnell and her beloved dog, "Ginger".

In leu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The Children's Miracle Network.  Memorials may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson, Mexico, MO 65265.
