Janta R. Thompson, 74, of Mexico, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the University of Missouri Hospital, in Columbia.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, May 19, 2023 at St. Paul's CME in Mexico.

Ms. Thompson was born on January 2, 1949 in Mexico, the daughter of Wilford and Jessie Mae (Pethy) Thompson.

Janta loved to spend time with family and friends. She was a very caring person. She would spend her leisure time reading or working crossword puzzles. Janita was quick with a humorous quip when in conversation that demonstrated how much she enjoyed life.

Survivors include one son, Joe Thompson of Columbia; one grandson, Kresin Scott; four brothers, Wilford Thompson, Jr. of Columbia, Elroy Thompson of Mexico, Otis Thompson of Mexico, Charles Thompson of Columbia; two sisters, Gerald Faye (Donald) Hill of Columbia, Gloria Thompson of Columbia as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, Aunts and Uncles.

Janta was preceded in death by her parents, Wilford and Jessie Thompson; one daughter, Shirley Faye Thompson; two sisters, Katherine Phillips and Jessie Marie Thompson.
