James "Jim" Robert Allen, Sr. passed away on February 16, 2023, at the age of 81 at his home in Mexico, Missouri. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain and struggles, Jim came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.

Mr. Allen was born on February 2, 1942 in Joplin, the son of Robert and Loveta (Whyte) Allen.

As a young person, Jim loved to travel. He joined the United States Navy Seabees after graduating Joplin High School in 1960 and went on to see the world. He joined the Carpenter's Local 311 Union of Joplin, MO, and made many friends along the way.

Jim met his first wife, Barbara Ann Redmon, and they had two children: James "Jamie" Robert Allen, Jr and Penny Diane Allen (now Allerton). Jim and Barbara later divorced.

Jim met his second wife, Cheryl, and they had two children: Dakota Allen and Sierra Allen. Jim and Cheryl later divorced.

Jim had a love for the outdoors and nature-crafts. He excelled at woodworking. He loved to bring the beauty out of a piece of wood. He was a skilled craftsman and created breathtaking walking sticks, which he delighted in seeing the joy they brought to others. His was an exemplary artist who created realistic portraits in both pencil and charcoal. His art has been featured in many prominent offices across the Midwest.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents: Robert S. Allen and Loveta Whyte Allen, and by his son, James "Jamie" Robert Allen, Jr of Webb City, MO.

He was survived by his children: Penny Allerton (Joplin, MO), Dakota Allen (Mexico, MO), and Sierra Allen (Mexico, MO); five grandchildren, Randee R. Jones (Joplin, MO), Joshua A. Allen (Joplin, MO), Samuel I. Allen (Webb City, MO), Tyler J. Higginbotham (Neosho, MO), and Malakai J Picton; one great-grandchild, Aaron Werle (Carl Junction, MO); two sisters, Jeanette Perry, who was his twin sister, (Joplin, MO) and Betty Galloway (Webb City, MO); as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
