Evelyn Elizabeth (Roling) Fennessey, 93, of Mexico, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Boone Hospital in Columbia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 11 , at St. Brendan Catholic Church with Fr. David Veit officiating. Burial will follow in St. Brendan Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, June 11 , at Arnold Funeral Home.
Evelyn was born on July 5, 1932, in Wardsville, Missouri, at the family home, the daughter of Edward H. Roling and Laura C. (Kolb) Roling. She often said her parents gave her a solid foundation for life, for which she was deeply grateful. On August 25, 1956, she married Joseph Patrick Fennessey at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on May 30, 2021.
Evelyn graduated from St. Peter High School and began her career with Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance in Jefferson City. After her marriage, she and Joe moved to St. James, Missouri, where she worked as a bookkeeper for Delano Oil Company.
In 1958, the couple relocated to Jefferson City, where Evelyn was employed by the Missouri State Chamber of Commerce. They moved to Mexico, Missouri, the following year, and she worked for six years at Mundy Service Agency under Wallace Feutz. She then devoted five years to raising her young family as a stay-at-home mother.
In 1971, Evelyn began her long career with the law firm of Seigfreid, Edwards, Runge, and Hodge, P.C. She remained with the firm for 23½ years, retiring in 1995 when it was known as Seigfreid, Runge, Leonatti and Pohlmeyer, P.C.
Evelyn was a faithful member of St. Brendan Catholic Church, the Ladies of St. Brendan, the Mexico Country Club, and the Audrain County Legal Secretaries Association.
Family was at the center of Evelyn's life. She cherished attending her grandchildren's school activities, graduations, and family gatherings. She and Joe enjoyed traveling together, visiting Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Alaska, and Canada, as well as taking road trips throughout the United States with their children. Evelyn also enjoyed golfing, participating in church activities, volunteering at St. Brendan Bingo, line dancing with the Mexico Hot Steppers, watching Mizzou football and basketball, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, and spending time gardening and tending to her flowers.
Survivors include three daughters, Jeanette Kopp of Festus, Judy (Mark) Wienke of Columbia, and Joyce (Dale) Nichols of Mokane; five grandchildren, Patrick (Amanda) Kopp, Jeffrey Kopp, Lauren Kopp, Taylor Nichols, and Ethan Nichols; and one sister, Lorraine Stegeman.
In addition to her husband, Joe, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Laura Roling; two brothers, Earl (Helen) Roling and Raymond (Lorraine) Roling; one sister, Dolores (Leonard) Loethen; brother-in-law, Robert Stegeman; two nieces, Sheila Stegeman and Donna Roling Lewis; and one nephew, Dan Roling.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Brendan Church or School or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Donations may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson Street, Mexico, MO 65265.
