Edna Viola Herndon, 95, of Mexico, passed away on Monday, December 27, 2021, in Joliet, Illinois.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 7, at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Mexico with Rev. J. McGlaun officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 12 p.m. until time of services at the church.

Edna was born on November 26, 1926, in Randolph County, Missouri, the daughter of Warren and Willie (Arnold) Benton. She married Richard Herndon and he passed away in 1976.

Mrs. Herndon was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years. She worked at the Handi-Shop as a grandmother to the disabled workers. She was a mother to everyone.

Survivors include her children, Richard Herndon of Mexico, Marcella Stallings of Joliet, Illinois, Kenneth (Phyllis) Herndon of Columbia, Donnell (Stormy) Herndon of Columbia, Denise Herndon of Columbia, Janice Herndon of Joliet, Illinois, and Ervin Herndon of Richmond, Virginia; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Richard, Edna was preceded in death by four children, Wallace Herndon, Marlene Matthews, Charles Herndon and James Benton Herndon; and several brothers and sisters including Pauline Greene.
