Frank Edward Volkmer III, 84, of Mexico, MO, passed away on June 13, 2025, at the home of his son, Joseph Volkmer.

Ed was born April 11, 1941 in Mexico, Missouri. He was the son of Frank Edward Volkmer II and Ann Dunnavant Volkmer. On January 19, 1963, he married Joan Elizabeth Littrell Volkmer at St. Brendan Catholic Church in Mexico, Missouri.

Ed graduated from St. Brendan School in 1959. He began working for Missouri Power and Light Company in 1961 as store room clerk and gradually worked his way up to Junior Auditor. He continued to work for them until he retired in 1996. During the time he was employed for MPL, he also did many other jobs after hours to supplement the family income. Those included working part time in a liquor store, cleaning phone booths and seining crawdads and selling them to bait stores. He even trapped Beaver and Muskrats and sold their pelts at the end of trapping season. Ed loved to go quail hunting and was always ready to go at a moments notice. In later years, he became an avid coin collector and loved going to coin shows in the Mexico area and always looked forward to attending the big coin convention in Las Vegas every year. He also bought coin collections and did estate coin collection appraisals for banks and lawyers. In addition to these hobbies, he was also an avid gardener and fisherman. He always said it never got too hot or too cold to fish. He learned all of the tricks of fishing from his dad, Frank. They spent many weekends fishing on the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. They even had a commercial fishing license. Ed passed on his love of fishing to his son, Joe, his grandsons and his great-grandsons, who all continue to carry on the Volkmer fishing legacy. He always said he never had a single day where he felt like he had nothing to do. He thoroughly enjoyed every single day of his life after he retired.

Ed is survived by his sister, Jane Ann Volkmer Floyd of Holts Summit, Missouri; his daughter, Tracy Ellen Volkmer, and his son, Joseph Michael Volkmer, both of Mexico, Missouri; two grandchildren, Dustin LaRue and Tyler Korman, both of Mexico, Missouri; and four great-grandchildren, two nieces, and his wife, Joan, of the home. Ed was preceded in death by his parents.
