Dwight Harold Schindler, 79, of Mexico, passed away at 10:10 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 31, at Centennial Baptist Church with Rev. Bryce Kristofferson officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation is Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Arnold Funeral Home.

Dwight was born on October 16, 1942, in St. Joseph, the son of Clarence Edwin and Vera Lela (Kunz) Schindler. He was the youngest of five children; Dwight grew up on a farm in Cosby, Missouri.

Mr. Schindler was a 1960 graduate of St. Joseph Central High School. He attended St. Joseph Junior College for two years while working at Stamey Funeral Home in St. Joseph. He then graduated from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service in Dallas, Texas, in 1965. On May 8, 1966, Dwight and Patricia (Brooner) were married in St. Joseph.

In September 1965, Dwight began working at Arnold Funeral Home as a funeral director and embalmer. He eventually became a co-owner in 1988 until retiring in 2007. He also owned East Lawn Memorial Park. Dwight truly loved being at the cemetery and would spend countless hours maintaining the grounds. He always enjoyed working to make the cemetery look exceptional.

Dwight and his wife, Pat, were baptized on December 9, 1979, at Centennial Baptist Church. He was an active member, serving as Trustee, and helping with bible school, Sunday school, Camp Cedarcrest, and Men's Group. He was also a member of the Mexico Jaycees, Noon Kiwanis, and Mexico Rotary Club. He was a friend to all.

Mr. Schindler loved the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs. He enjoyed: reading mystery and thriller novels, walking around Lakeview Lake, eating M & M's, and constantly searching for the next cup of coffee. He was an avid lawn and car enthusiast who liked talking to anyone he met about his favorite topics. He also enjoyed his weekly card games with several friend groups and playing different types of games, such as croquet, and mini-golf. Collecting coins was also a passion, and he liked to show his collection to his friends and family. Dwight was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and adored them with his entire heart. He loved to watch them in their respective sports, choirs, and all school functions.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Schindler, of the home; two daughters, Diane (Mike) Hibbs of Centralia and Gail Wilson (Jason Hinson) of Mexico; four grandchildren, Michele and Drew Hibbs, both of Centralia, and Brett and Preston Wilson, both of Mexico; one brother, Wayne Schindler of Denver, Colorado; one sister-in-law, Janet Schindler of Overland Park, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Larry Schindler and Glen Schindler; and one sister, Marilyn (Larry) Grauberger.
