Dorothea May Hutsel, 68, of Mexico, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Pin Oaks Living Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, at Arnold Funeral Home with Pastor Rich Neeley officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Dorothea was born on August 7, 1957, in Mexico, Missouri, the daughter of Donald Lee and Mary Edith (Wheat) Roddy. She graduated from Centralia High School in 1975 and then earned a bachelor's degree in education from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville. She married Ronald William Hutsel on May 26, 1979.
Dorothea devoted many years to Mexico Public Schools as a homebound and substitute teacher. She was a faithful member of Union Baptist Church, where she lived out her faith by serving in many positions including teaching Discipleship Training, Vacation Bible School, and church clerk.
She enjoyed crafting, creating diamond art, crocheting, and scroll sawing. In earlier years, she served as a Girl Scout leader and earned her General Class amateur radio license.
Survivors include her husband, Ron Hutsel of the home; two daughters, Amanda Hutsel of Chillicothe and Melissa (Drew) Williford of Mexico; one grandson, Grant Williford; two brothers, Don (Pam) Roddy Jr. of Columbia and Frank (Barbara) Roddy of Columbia; one sister, Virginia (Ray) Nichols of Centralia; one brother-in-law, Danny Swiney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Mary Roddy; and one sister, Wanda Swiney.
Memorial donations may be made to Faith Maternity Care and may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson Street, Mexico, MO 65265.
