Donald "Donnie" Schwartze, 81, of Martinsburg, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at his home after a battle with lung cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 30, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
A Prayer Service will be at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico with a visitation following from 5-8 p.m. The family will also receive friends on Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of Mass at the church.
Donnie was born in 1940, in Vienna, the son of William "Bill" and Josephine (Deimeke) Schwartze. He married Diana J. DeVault in January 1966 in Mexico. Donnie and Diana would have been married 56 years.
He attended St. Joseph Catholic School and in May 1959, he graduated from Community R-VI in Laddonia. Donnie was a veteran of the US Army. He worked at Wellsville Firebrick Company for several years, before becoming a fulltime row crop and hog farmer on the family farm.
Mr. Schwartze was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1270, American Legion Post 552 and CMOTA Antique Tractor Pulling Association. Donnie served as an ASCS committeeman and a board member of the Martinsburg Farmers Elevator.
He enjoyed restoring and collecting International antique tractors, tractor pulling and parades with his Farmall Super M. Donnie also enjoyed his antique cars and working on their farm.
Donnie loved spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family and grandchildren. He also loved spending time with his pets and animals were automatically drawn to him.
Donnie is survived by his wife, Diana; three children, Randy Schwartze and Joanna Schwartze, both of Martinsburg, and Danny (Nichole) Schwartze of Overland Park, KS; three grandchildren, Annelissa Taylor of Kansas City, Cordell Hollensteiner of Columbia and Jolene Hollensteiner of Martinsburg; one brother, Leo Schwartze of Mexico; one sister, Mildred (Chuck) Jennings of Wellsville; brother-in-law, John (Nan) DeVault of Palm Springs, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Donnie was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Schwartze; one sister, Marilyn Mollet; one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Schwartze; and brother-in-law, Charlie Mollet.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph School Trust Fund, Mexico Veterans Home or the Central Missouri Honor Flight. They may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson, Mexico, MO 65265.
