Denny Ross Whisler, 92, of Mexico, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at the Monroe Manor in Paris, Missouri.

Visitation is Monday, January 24, from 10 - 11 a.m. at Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico, Missouri. Funeral Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Graveside Services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25, at Fairview Cemetery in Unionville, Iowa.

Denny was born on December 24, 1929 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Ross S. and Lucile B. (Ziegler) Whisler.

Denny graduated from Centerville High School in 1948, attended Centerville Junior College, and the University of Iowa. Before his senior year, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. After 16 months, he returned to the University of Iowa and obtained a degree in business administration.

On August 13, 1955, he married Wanda Earlene Thomason at her parents' farm in Cincinnati, Iowa. Later that month, Denny started with Iowa Finance Company at Centerville. He would become manager of the Centerville and Iowa Falls branches. In 1965, he transferred to Mexico and managed Valley Finance Company (which became Avco Financial Services). After a short stint in St. Louis, he returned to Mexico until his retirement in 1989.

Mr. Whisler was a member of the Mexico United Methodist Church, serving in various areas such as Treasurer, Board of Trustees, and the Methodist Mens Group. He was an assistant scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop No. 58, member of Jaycees in Centerville (IA), and the American Legion Post #26 in Mexico. As a member of the Kiwanis Club in Mexico, Denny earned 49 years of perfect attendance and served as Past President and Lt. Governor of the Mo-Ark District #5. He was honored with the Kiwanis Distinguished Service Award and received the George F. Hixson Award from Kiwanis International in 2003.

Survivors include one daughter, Almeda (Dan) Niederschulte of Keokuk, Iowa; one son, Larry (Jina) Whisler of Mexico; five grandchildren, Christopher (Ruth Walsh) Niederschulte, Dawn (Mitch) Trujillo, Leslie Niederschulte, Brie (Tyler) Weaver and Laura (Kalip) Davidson; and five great-grandchildren, Cruz, Ivy, Stassi, Saylor and Kole.

Denny was preceded in death by his wife, Earlene Whisler. She passed away on January 4, 2018.
