David Alan
Penn
Sep 28, 1943 — Aug 16, 2024
David Alan Penn peacefully passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024. David was born on September 28, 1943 to Lewis and Frances (Chrane) Penn in Jefferson City, Missouri. He was a devoted spouse with Mildred (George) Penn for 58 years and a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather.
David grew up in Auxvasse, MO, helping out with the family farm and graduating from Auxvasse High School in 1961. He was the first of his family to attend college, graduating from Bethany Nazarene College (BS, Business Education) in 1965. Moving back to the area as a high school teacher, he met the love of his life, Millie.
In 1969, David began his tenure as President of Kaiser Credit Union (now Show Me). His success in this role paved the way for his next opportunity in 1986, when he became President of United Credit Union, which served the employees of A.P. Green Refractories. David held this position for 15 years, during which he expanded the institution to include dozens of employer groups and extended membership to all residents of Audrain and neighboring counties. A passionate advocate and leader in the Credit Union movement, he was well-known for his dedication to both members and employees. He retired in 2001.
David was a faithful member of Centennial Baptist Church for more than 50 years. He served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, youth group volunteer and treasurer. But most will remember his 40 years leading the choir, congregational singing, and many Christmas/Easter cantatas.
David had a heart for helping people. Whether it was finding a financial solution for a credit union member or supporting a young person going to a church camp, he always had a giving spirit. He also loved sports, was a coach, and refereed high school basketball for years around the mid-Missouri area.
David was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Penn (2016), and wife, Mildred Penn (2024).
He is survived by three children, Tauna (Falconer) Powell (Allen), Laclede, MO; Michael Penn, Lake St. Louis, MO; and Matthew Penn (Shawna), Mexico, MO. Six grandchildren, Jessica Powell, Dallas Powell, Nathan Powell (Heather), Gracelyn Penn, Geoffrey Penn, Michael J. Penn, and great grandchildren, Genesis Powell and Titus Powell. Two sisters, Jane Anderson and Joyce Felt, both of Mexico.
A celebration of David's life will be held on Tuesday, August 20 at Centennial Baptist Church in Mexico, MO. Visitation from 10am-noon, followed by funeral services. Burial will be at Auxvasse cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Centennial Baptist Church of Mexico, MO. Memorials may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson St., Mexico, MO 65265.
