David Bruce Ostendorf, 78, of Mexico, passed away on November 28, 2024, at his home.

Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, December 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Arnold Funeral Home with Pastor Rich Neeley officiating. Burial will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

David was born on November 20, 1946, in St. Louis, the son of Dorence and Ada (Rittmayer) Ostendorf. On June 3, 1972, he married Marilyn Jenkins in Ames, Iowa, beginning a journey that spanned 52 years together. Their shared life was filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories, including 42 years of bowling together—a pastime they both enjoyed.

David proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970, stationed in Berlin, Germany. He continued his service in the Army Reserves from 1970 to 1974, achieving the rank of Specialist 5 (SP5).

He had a passion for the outdoors and found joy in hunting and fishing. He loved spending time on the deck, watching birds and squirrels, and appreciating nature's beauty. A sports enthusiast, he enjoyed watching football and wrestling, cheering on his favorite teams and athletes.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Ostendorf; two children, Angela (Kurtis) Dishman and Brian Ostendorf both of Mexico; two grandchildren, Kenzie and Kloie Dishman; a sister, Cheryl (Henry) Avello of Houston, Texas; a step-brother, John (Carol) Elder of Republic; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dorence Ostendorf; and a nephew, Shawn Ostendorf.

Memorials may be made to Union Baptist Church. They may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson St., Mexico, MO 65265.
