Christian Craig Van Schyndel, of Mexico, Missouri, died on January 5, 2024.

He was born August 31, 1955 in Brainerd, Minnesota, the 4th son of William and Linda Gertrude (Beckman) Van Schyndel.

Craig worked from 1986 until 2016 for the Illinois Secretary of State in Springfield, IL, and retired from this position.

He attended elementary school in Jacksonville, Illinois, graduated from Longmont High School in Longmont, Colorado, in 1970, then graduated from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education with a minor in music. He was in vocal groups as a baritone base, and toured with one group in Europe during college. He was an Eagle Scout from Troop 113 Jacksonville, Illinois. While a member of West Side Christian Church, Springfield, IL, he sang with the Faithful Men's Chorus. He enjoyed playing his guitar.

Craig was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Christian and Tryntje (Trina) Van Schyndel and Herman Fredrick (Augusta Ann) Beckman; brother, Robert Lynn Van Schyndel; nephew, Nicholas Gene Van Schyndel; and nieces, Teresa and Faye Van Schyndel.

Survivors include two brothers, William 'Bill' David (Karen) Van Schyndel, of Minneapolis, MN, and James 'Jim' Glen Van Schyndel (Kathy) of Mexico, MO; sister-in-law, Jennie Van Schyndel, Springfield, IL; nieces and nephews: David Brent (Britta) Van Schyndel, Sarah Joi Van Schyndel, Ryan Alan (Kari)Van Schyndel, all of Minneapolis, MN, Matthew James (Leah) Van Schyndel of Mexico, MO, Heidi Kathleen (Ryan) Aikins of Marshville, MO, Trina Lynn Van Schyndel, of Chicago, IL, and Aaron Roy (Vanessa) Van Schyndel of San Anselmo, CA; great-nieces and nephews: Paul Aaron Van Schyndel, Maren Grace Van Schyndel, Ian Van Schyndel, William (Will) Van Schyndel, all of Minneapolis, MN, Nicholas James Van Schyndel, Lydia Hope Van Schyndel and Kodi Lane Van Schyndel, all of Mexico, MO, Hudson Keith (Kyla) Aikins of Joplin, MO, Brooklyn Reese Aikins, Lincoln Ryan Aikins, Kingston Steven Aikins, all of Marshville, MO, and Vera Lynn and Wesley Charles Van Schyndel of San Anselmo, CA.

Services will be private.

Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park, Mexico, MO.
