Charles Phillip Mayes, 92, of Mexico, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Pin Oaks Living Center.

Memorial services with full military honors will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville. Rev. Glen Forman will be officiating the service.

Visitation will be held from 11:30 to 12:30 on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Arnold Funeral Home.

Charles was born on March 12, 1932 in Louisiana, Missouri, the son of Thurman H. and Lillian B. (Hancox) Mayes.  On July 23, 2004 he married Patricia Ann Holton in Mexico who preceded him in death.

Charles served proudly for 17 years in the U.S. Air Force and four years in the Navy.  He received numerous awards and citations during his time of service.  Charles spent 18 years working as a Sheriff's Deputy for the Audrain County Sheriff's Department before retiring on December 31, 2005. While serving the Audrain County Sheriff's Department he earned a Certificate of Recognition for Extraordinary Personal Action for Utilizing Red Cross Lifesaving skill to save a human life on October 16, 1989.

Survivors include one son, Charles T. Mayes of Mexico; three nieces, Donna Greenwell of Kansas City, Darla Adrian of Kansas City and Jo Harris of Lucas, Texas.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Mayes; his parents, Thurman and Lillian Mayes and one sister, Dorothy Standley.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Friendship Baptist Church. Memorials may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson, Mexico, MO 65265.
