Betty Lorain Moss, 90, of Columbia, MO formerly of Mexico, MO passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, at the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia with Rev. Dr. Kati Collins officiating. Visitation is from 9:15 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday at the church.
Graveside services will be 12 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, at East Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Gary Pillischafske officiating.
Betty was born on February 24, 1935 in St. Louis, the daughter of Charles and Wilhelmenia Henrietta Maria (Richtermeyer) Henry. On February 24, 1954, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, she married James (Jim) Eugene Moss. He passed away April 1, 2005.
Mrs. Moss was the very first "Miss Salem" of Salem, MO back in the early 1950's. She was a graduate of Hickman High School. Betty was a homemaker and worked for various organizations including Audrain Medical Center, Dr. H. P. Ekern, Singer Fabrics, Pearl Motor Company, Missouri School Boards Association, and Fenlon & Fenlon Law Office.
Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mexico, MO, and First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, MO where she sang in the choir, served as a Deacon and Elder. She along with her husband James (Jim), were co-sponsors of the Pioneers Youth Group.
Betty loved singing, gardening, sewing and cooking. She adored her doggies, but her family meant the world and was her joy.
Survivors include three children, Vicky Lynn (Ramon) Rocha Gonzalez of Tecumseh, Kansas, Katherine L. Moss (Jim Land) of Columbia, and Phillip E. (Cindy) Moss of Callao; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne (Joshua) Cobb of Wamego, Kansas, Kristopher D. (Kathy) Smith of Morris, Illinois, Warren Thomas (Brittany) Smith of Panama City, Florida, Phillip Eugene Moss II of Cairo, and Lauren (Ty) Reynolds of Huntsville; two step-grandchildren, Lydia and Austin Malloy; six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry (Myrna) Henry of St. Louis; two sisters, Ida Mae Ragsdale of Salem and Marie Miller of St. Charles; and one sister-in-law, Judy Westphall of Des Moines. She was also dearly loved by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, James, Betty was preceded in death by six siblings.
Memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Central Missouri Humane Society, or the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia. All may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson Street, Mexico, MO 65265.
