Betty J. McBurney, 85, of Thompson, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at her home.
Graveside Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, in Auxvasse Cemetery.
Betty was born on April 13, 1939, in Audrain County, the daughter of Buford and Mabel (Kobush) Lewis. She married Robert Franklin McBurney on September 9, 1967, in Holts Summit. He preceded her in death on October 15, 2020.
Betty was a beloved individual who cherished the simple pleasures in life. She had a passion for gardening. She also expressed her creativity through drawing and crocheting, and her love for nature was evident in her fondness for watching hummingbirds. Betty loved baking and she took pride in her kitchen. In quieter moments, she enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles, always with her family close by. Her love for her family was a guiding light in her life, and she spent as much time with them as possible, creating memories that will be cherished forever."
She is survived by two grandchildren, Heather (Scott) Hudson of Mexico and Ashley Brumback of Centralia; four great-grandchildren, Kaila Browning of Centralia, Zoey Gilman of Mexico, Kya Brumback and Wade Brumback both of Centralia; nephew, Bobby Gordon of Mexico; three sisters, Mary Clark of Macon, Dorothy Garland and Juanita Bylo both of Jonesburg; brother-in-law, Richard McBurney; and several other nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; two sons, Darren McBurney and Jason McBurney; a daughter, Elizabeth Browning; and a sister, Joyce Leopold.
