Aubrey "Gene" Potter, 81, of Mexico, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Caring Hearts and Hands in Columbia.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at East Lawn Memorial Park. Chaplin Bart Larson will be officiating the service.

Gene was born on April 2, 1942 in Fayette, the son of Aubrey Gray and Hazel (Huttsell) Potter.  In November of 1989 he married Carolyn Ellen Likes in Kentucky who preceded him in death on June 28, 2022.

Gene loved animals, with a special affection for horses.  He was an active member of the Barn Committee for the restoration of Simmons Stables in Mexico.  Gene was an English Teacher at Mexico High School and later served as a dorm supervisor at Missouri Military Academy.  He also was a trained auctioneer.

Survivors include two sons, Mike Potter of Mexico and Geoff (Pam) Potter of Wrens, GA; one daughter, Jennifer (Eric) Collier of Sandersville, GA; seven grandchildren, Isabella (Ben) DeRaps of Mexico, Aubrey Potter of Mexico, Brooklyn Potter of Wrens, GA, Addison Potter of Wrens, GA, Abigail (Joshua) Lindsey of Sandersville, GA, Madison Collier of Sandersville, GA and Caylee Collier of Sandersville, GA; one cousin, Linda (Bill) Reid of Mexico.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn and his parents, Aubrey and Hazel Potter.
