.Alexander "Alex" Wayne Power, 5, of Centralia, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the University of Missouri.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, at Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico, Missouri. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Alex was born on September 17, 2019, in Columbia, the beloved son of Marcus and Elizabeth (Hemphill) Power.

Alex was a bright and joyful spirit who brought light to everyone around him. He adored his bear and Elmo, and he had a deep love for Disney music—his favorite instrument was the drums, though he enjoyed anything with a melody or buttons he could press or click repeatedly. His favorite toy was "gator" –a small alligator that had lights and sounds when he clicked the buttons.

Alex loved to bounce and jump, and though he didn't talk, he was extremely good at letting you know how he felt about things at any given time. Through all of his therapy visits, doctor's appointments, and treatments he would always let his providers know he didn't care much for being forced to participate. When he warmed up to someone, he was constantly smiling, laughing, and cuddling with them, especially if they were in a rocking chair where he could nestle in and rock to sleep. He loved to be tickled and had the loudest, deepest belly laugh when his legs and tummy were gotten. He had recently learned to lift his foot for never-ending rounds of "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" as soon as the "knees" was finished and would wait so impatiently with a mischievous smirk until his toes were touched. He was fearless, as being blind and learning to walk, he would just take off and stomp along until he bumped into something and then adjust his path and just kept marching along. He touched so many lives in his short time here, and could light up a room with his tight-lipped grin or pure and joyful laughs. Alex will be missed dearly by those that had ever met him, and though he was blind in life, he now watches over us all.

He is survived by his loving parents, Marcus and Elizabeth Power of Centralia; his siblings, Cheyenne and Tyler Power, both of Centralia; grandparents, Tony and Sharon Power of Laddonia, Dawn and David Showalter of Kenai, Alaska, and John Hemphill of Paris; great-grandparents, John and Jackie Iverson of Soldotna, Alaska, and Marinelle Sheeley of Columbia. He is also survived by many aunts and uncles who cherished him dearly: Mike and Mandy Power of Moberly, Shelby and Karra Hemphill of Mexico, Michelle Iverson of Kenai, Alaska, and Tara Power of Laddonia. He is also survived by numerous cousins.

Alex was recently preceded in death by a great-grandparent, Ron Sheeley, and many other loved ones that he never met, who now welcome him with open arms.
