Obituary
Gloria Marie Jones, 81 of Mexico died Friday June 11, 2010 at Golden Living Center/Pin Oaks, after a three month illness.
Gloria was born on Feb. 16, 1929 in Ottawa, IL to Christopher and Mable Bayer. During her lifetime she loved to cook. Her family always looked forward to her pioneer baked beans and zucchini bread. After working in various restaurants, Gloria joined the Pin Oaks Nursing Home nutrition staff and served there until her retirement 14 years later.
While living in Ottawa, she met her beloved Earl T. Jones, and they were married on November 4, 1947. Their devotion to each other was celebrated with 63 wedding anniversaries. After moving to Mexico, Earl and his dear Gloria, who he always called “Shorty”, became the proud parents of 6 children. As a homemaker, Gloria loved to watch her “stories” on TV and make up photo albums of her adored family’s pictures. Holiday meals and celebrations were very important to her, and the entire Jones family was either present at the family home or “called” on those special days. In addition to her loved ones at home, dear friends of Gloria’s Thursday night Tops group were like a second family to her. She was a part of this organization for over 40 years.
Gloria is survived by her husband Earl, of Mexico, and sons, Thomas Jones and wife Carol of Miami, OK; Gary Jones and wife Debbe of Mexico; Larry Jones and wife Teresa of Thompson; daughter, Vickie Ryan and friend Mike Alexander of LaGrange; daughter-in-law-Connie Jones of Rush Hill; sister, Betty Lieske of Ottawa, IL; brother, Joe “Hap” Bayer and wife Dian of Ottawa, IL. She was the adored grandmother of 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Janice, Gertrude, Donna and Jerry; daughter, Jill Ann Jones; son, Tim Jones; great-granddaughter, Katie Jones.
The family asks that any memorial contributions be made in Gloria’s honor to Kentucky Road Christian Church.
