Obituary
Presley J. “P.J.” Nelson, 77 of Centralia, died peacefully at his home at 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2010.
P.J. was born Sept. 21, 1932 in Frankford, the son of Presley G. and Stella Marie (Runyon) Nelson. On June 22, 1952 in Vandalia, he married Eleanor F. Babb. She survives of the home. He is also survived by one daughter, Debra McDowell of Ashland; three sons, Darrel Nelson and wife, Sherri, of Angels Camp, California, Daniel Nelson and wife, Dawn, of Centralia and Darin Nelson and wife, Sara, of Hannibal; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Presley Nelson and Stella Marie Browning, one sister, three brothers and an infant daughter, Janet Rae.
Mr. Nelson was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War era. He retired from Moorman Feed Co. in 1988, ran his own tire service business from 1952 to 1968, had farmed, raised livestock, sold Vigertone Feed from 1989 to 1995 and sold for Middlekoop Seed in Packwood, IA from 1996 to 2010.
P. J. was a steadfast believer in Jesus Christ and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia.
