Herman Adrian Aulbur
Herman Adrian Aulbur, age 99, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 5:15 a.m. at the Heisinger Bluff Nursing Home in Jefferson City.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 24 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg with Fr. Greg Oligschlaeger officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico and from 9 a.m. Saturday until Mass at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Mr. Aulbur was born December 24, 1910 in Martinsburg, the son of Caspar and Elizabeth (Freese) Aulbur. He married Theresa Weins on Dec. 26, 1942. She preceded him in death on Oct. 27, 2004.
Herman was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg and attended had attended St. Joseph Catholic School. He was a farmer and when he retired from farming full time, he enjoyed gardening. He was on the Martinsburg Farmer’s Elevator Board, was a member of the Farm Bureau, and particularly enjoyed being active in the Audrain County Pachyderm Club. He helped with the 1940s and 1950s census. He loved to play sports. He played baseball with his grandchildren and ice skated well into his seventies. He was an avid Cardinal baseball fan and could recall every World Series the Cardinals had ever played in. He also was an avid Mizzou football and basketball fan.
Mr. Aulbur is survived by four daughters and two sons: Rosemarie (Gordon) Smith of Chillicothe, Bill (Jean) Aulbur of Martinsburg, Alice (Gary) Breneman of Bridgeton, Carolyn (Charles) Houseworth of Lexington, Mark (Millie) Aulbur of Jefferson City, and Beth (Ray) Nanneman of Salisbury. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren: Mike (Sandy) Aulbur, Jeff (Julie) Breneman, Christie Smith, Corey (Joy) Breneman, Natalie Smith Lewis (Bill), Julie (Dirk) Smith Talley, Tom (Michele) Aulbur, Ted (Angie) Aulbur, Luke (Sarah) Breneman, Brian Smith, Randy (Heather) Aulbur, Becky Smith West (Todd), Ben (Maura) Houseworth, Sarah (Aaron) Aulbur Mensinger, Andy (Molly) Aulbur, Chris Aulbur, Ellie (A.J.) Breneman Waide, Jaclyn Smith, Matt Houseworth, Abby (Jan) Houseworth Gerling, Kimberly (Adam) Smith Perkins, and Marc (Katie) Breneman. He also is survived by 27 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his three sisters–Mary, Teresa, and Elizabeth; his three brothers–Henry, Chris and Albert; and a granddaughter, Katie Aulbur.
