Obituary
Andrew “Andy” McRoberts, Jr., son of Andrew and Harriette (Clowser) McRoberts was born in Chariton, IA on August 13, 1921 and passed away on March 26, 2010 in Mexico, MO.

Andy graduated from Chariton High School and was one of 16 youths to enlist in the Navy on July 4, 1942. He was a pharmacist mate second class during WWII in the South Pacific at Guadalcanal, Salomon Island, New Caledonia, Villa Le Villa, New Guinea and others. He was honorably discharged on October 12, 1945. Andy had a gift of gab, never meeting a stranger and it served him well as a salesman for the Sandura Carpet Company, traveling Iowa and Nebraska. He moved to Moberly, Mo in 1968 and opened Andy’s Carpet. There he met and married “his buddy” Treva Brock on September 18, 1972. In 1980 he retired and they moved to Benton City, where his friends would gather in his garage to have many heated discussions on political issues or debating any topic that came up.

Andy was an avid reader on a variety of subjects, particularly history and politics. He enjoyed working on his home, woodworking projects and tending his roses. He was an all around sports fan, he liked to watch games with his brothers and nephews. Many fun filled arguments were had at family gatherings on football and baseball especially since Andy was a die hard Chicago Cubs fan.

He loved drag boat races, boating, skiing and camping. He enjoyed driving the boat and teaching kids to water ski. Many happy hours were spent camping at Thomas Hill Lake with the “Thomas Hill Troopers” playing horseshoes. Andy would say “There was nothing like a hot game of shoes” and the clanging of the shoes would signal a game was about to start.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Marty, David, Bernard and Gene; and one sister Anne Marie Musick.

He is survived by his wife Treva, of the home; two daughters, Barbara Reichert and husband Walter of Branchburg, NJ and Lynne Pardoe of Marrietta, GA; one brother, Robert “Bob” McRoberts and wife Betty of Knoxville, IA; two sisters-in-law, Beverly McRoberts of Chariton, IA and Margaret McRoberts of Wichita Falls, TX; Nephews, Cork Musick of Chariton, IA, Mark, Steve, Scott, Kevin, Nick, Pat and Skipper McRoberts, all of Iowa; Nieces, Marydee Chamberlain of Iowa City, IA, Kathy Hamilton, Kim Conrad, Andrea Wesley and Pam McRoberts all of Iowa and Terry Southard of California.

There will be no visitation, but a military graveside service will be held at a later date at Fairview Cemetery, east of Excello, MO.

Memorials may be made to the Benton City Community Center or Fairview Cemetery Association in Care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson, Mexico, MO 65265.
