Obituary
Margaret Jean Bertels, 83, died March 12, 2010, at Garden Terrace Nursing home in Overland Park, Ks.
She was born October 27, 1926, in Martinsburg, Mo, a daughter of Edmond and Rose Mary Winkleman Farnen. She was married April 14, 1951, in Martinsburg, Mo to Bernard J. Bertels, who died Jan. 24, 1995.
Before her marriage, she was employed by the Mexico Ledger. In 1968 the family moved from Martinsburg to Jefferson City where her husband was co-owner of Mid-State Oil Co.
She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church, Jefferson City, Mo.
Survivors include one son, B. Joseph Bertels and wife Peggy, of Gwynedd Valley, Pa; two daughters, Jeanne Bertels Sherman and husband Jim, of Baltimore, Md, and Ellen C. Bertels, of Roeland Park, Ks.; one sister, Kathleen Fecht, of Kansas City, Mo; and one brother, Kevin Farnen and wife Jane, of Mexico, Mo., and four grandchildren, Mary Bertels, of New York NY, Teresa Bertels and Catherine Bertels, of Gwynedd Valley Pa, and Matthew Sherman, of Baltimore Md. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Rose Mary Sloan of Jefferson City.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday March 18, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Martinsburg with the Rev. Greg Oligschlaeger officiating. Visitation will precede the Mass from 10 am to 11 am at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
