Obituary
Charles Kenton “Ken” Hollender, 66 of Mexico, passed away at 10:40 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009 at Audrain Medical Center.
Ken was born August 22, 1943 in Santa Monica, California, the son of J. Francis and Lila Jo (Browne) Hollender.
Ken was raised in Hunnewell and following graduation from Monroe City High School, he served in active duty with the U.S. Navy. He retired as Master Chief from the U.S. Naval Reserve and was a lifetime member of the Floyd Bennett Naval Enlisted Reserve Association. While residing in Long Island, NY, Ken was employed by Eastern Airlines and Meenan Oil. After suffering a debilitating stroke, Ken eventually returned to Missouri, where he had been a resident at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico.
Survivors include his father, Francis Hollender and wife, Jean, of Columbia; one son, Charles Hollender and wife, Daisy, of Fayetteville, NC; three daughters, Dawn Hollender of Kanawake, Quebec, Canada, Debora Goldstein of Brooklyn, NY and Carmen Schrand of Cincinnati, OH; one granddaughter and three grandsons; one brother, Stephen Hollender of Berea, OH; two sisters, Karen Salmon of Columbia and Glenda Eisele of Havana, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Katherine Sims of Mexico.
Mr. Hollender was preceded in death by his mother; step-mother, Esther Hollender; and one sister, Mary Kay Grebing.
