Obituary
Gary Lee Maassen, 63 of Paris, died at 11:52 p.m. Monday, November 23, 2009 at Audrain Medical Center.
Gary was born February 27, 1946 in Jefferson City to Vincent P. and Nelda Ruth (Blackburn) Maassen. On August 15, 1997 in Mexico, he married Carole Altman. She survives at the home.
Gary served in the United States Air Force.
Mr. Maassen was a plant superintendant at St. Louis Metalizing, where he worked for 35 years until his retirement. He was a member of VFW Post 2593 in Arnold and Boilermakers Local 27.
In addition to his wife Carole, he is survived by his mother, Nelda Maassen of Mexico; two daughters, Shawnna Hoffman and husband, Bryon, of Pacific, Jessica Thacker and husband, Jim, of Festus; grandchildren, Vincent and Logan Hoffman and Ava Thacker; one brother, Ron Maassen and wife, Linda, of Arnold; nephew, Brad Maassen; niece, Jillian Maassen of Arnold; father-in-law, Bernard Altman; sister-in-law, Susan Alspach and husband, Scott, of St. Louis; nephew and niece, Jacob and Lauren Alspach of St. Louis; and his best friend, Harley.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vincent Maassen and mother-in-law, Josephine Altman.
He will greatly miss his Santa Fe friends.
