Obituary
Kermit Aubert Lay, 70 of Benton City, died July 22, 2009 at his home.

Aubert was born in St. Elmo, Ill. on April 18, 1939, the son of John Kermit Lay and Anna Mae (Tekotte) Lay. The family moved from Illinois to Missouri in 1954. He graduated from Mexico High School with the class of 1957 and was employed at Gilmore Implement while attending school. He was in the National Guard from 1957 to 1958. On June 6, 1959, he married Gloria Jean Duffen in Columbia, who survives. He worked in construction in Mexico in the late 1950s before starting a family farm in eastern Audrain County. His life ambition was farming and was very dedicated and devoted to his farming operation. He met the challenge of farming with vigor, enthusiasm and determination. He enjoyed boating and recreation in the summers with his family at the Lake of the Ozarks. Another interest was participating at car shows, as he had several historic cars. He was a member of the Laddonia Baptist Church. Aubert will be sadly missed by many friends and especially his family.

He is survived by his wife Gloria of the home whom he shared 50 years of which they celebrated June 6, 2009; his son, Eddie Lay and fiancee Barb Johnson and her son, Jaden, of Mexico; one daughter, Sharon Kay Stuckenschneider and husband, Gary, of Martinsburg; five grandchildren, Brandon and Travis Lay, Jill, Justin and Jina Stuckenschneider; six great-grandchildren, Brianna, Tyson, Bryson, Braden and Ace Lay, and Vanessa Lay; a brother, John Lay and wife Louise of Columbia; a sister, Joyce Osgood and husband Melvin of Marshalltown, Iowa; two nephews, one niece and two uncles. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

The family will hold many happy memories of a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Memorials may be made to the Benton City Cemetery Association and the J.B. and Greeta B. Arthur Cancer Center.
